From Tradition to Modernity: The Transforming Roles of Brides and Grooms in Wedding Ceremonies

The bride and groom have significant roles to represent in marriage and are usually involved in the traditional marriage processes embodying the coming together of two persons and at times two families. Customarily, the bride wears a garment that bears cultural respect; she represents chastity as well as affection and rebirth. The groom, who also is in traditional clothes, symbolizes strength, responsibility, and the readiness to protect. As a part of the marriage, they do different things that are formulated from one culture to another including the rituals such as the westerners’ vows and rings or even the complex Indian marriage procedures such as Saptapadi or a seven-step that the couples may undertake around a fire.
